The Role

As Teamlead Payroll Subject Matter Expert, you directly contribute to building our integrated payroll product for the German market, working at the interface of our product teams. You will also lead the Payroll Subject Matter experts enabling our cross-functional product teams accordingly. With your managerial skills and deep payroll experience, you and your team of Payroll Subject Matter Experts build the foundation in terms of in-depth payroll knowledge, enabling our product teams to create the best-integrated payroll offering. Our team of payroll experts provides the necessary knowledge and context to translate complex legislative requirements into clear and concise product requirements for product management, product design, and engineering to be successful in their roles. You drive the quality of our payroll product by leading the definition of test cases and supporting the acceptance of product development. You also closely collaborate with our Payroll Service team. Your feedback to product teams directly contributes to further product automation and a great user experience. 

You can join our team FULL-REMOTE (Germany) or be located in Munich.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Build, lead and develop a highly motivated and focused team of Payroll Subject Matter Experts within one of our tribes
  • Work with our Head of Payroll Service to align legislative requirements to our product strategy and Personio's holistic product experience
  • Effectively share learnings and collaborate with leaders across the Payroll Domain to improve the overall approach to strategy
  • Be the go-to person for peers and external stakeholders in terms of German Payroll expertise and Customer pain points within your area of responsibility in the Payroll domain, while having a holistic view of the target product experience
  • Continuously coordinate the needs of the product teams in alignment with the legal foundations and requirements for German payroll
  • Set a standard for operational excellence through effective collaboration throughout the payroll product development lifecycle, focussing the team on important tasks with clear priorities 
  • Define processes and coordinate a team of Payroll Subject Matter Experts to effectively manage and enable collaboration with the product teams
  • Enable your team to drive the analysis of quality aspects of our payroll platform regarding legal compliance 
  • Ensure efficient collaboration with our Payroll Service team and support creating a high level integrated payroll service landscape for a great customer experience
  • Create, monitor, and refine meaningful KPIs that measure the success of your team
  • Operationally support your team
  • Qualify the best criteria for our go-to-market strategy and target segment
  • Constantly expand your payroll knowledge and keep up to date on legislative changes
  • Enable, develop and support team members to excel in their job, take responsibility for Team members and their performance, empower them to act independently within their assigned area of responsibility
What you need to succeed
  • In-depth expertise and knowledge of German payroll based on professional education or studies in the field of accounting, controlling, tax, or payroll
  • At least 6 years of operational experience in payroll calculations and responsibility for the end-to-end payroll process
  • At least 2 years of people management experience
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams
  • Ideally, a good understanding of web technologies and software development
  • Strong technical understanding and advanced skills in Excel / Google Spreadsheets 
  • Analytical thinking and abstraction capabilities to solve problems in a systematic manner
  • Customer-centric and solution-oriented mindset 
  • Effective stakeholder management through frequent and clear communication
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in German and English
